Fourteen dinosaur fossils have been found again in Zigong, Sichuan province
Since March 9, the team has found 17 dinosaur fossil sites (14 in Zigong) and 4 leaf and limb fossil sites at the junction of Zigong and Leshan. These dinosaur fossils contain femurs, ribs, spine and other parts of the dinosaur, with a spatial span of about 3.3 kilometers. The number of many, the wide distribution, domestic rare.
On March 9, when the investigators came to a steep wall with paleontological fossils, they found no road and needed to explore up the steep wall. "The steep wall was covered with brambles and we had to go in and cut the branches and look for dinosaur fossils on the steep wall."
Soon investigators found shoulder blades, femurs and limb bones on the steep wall, the first new dinosaur fossils found in the survey. A total of eight dinosaur fossils have been found at the site, according to investigators.
"We have limited information at the moment, and we can't tell which group of dinosaur fossils they are from just these dinosaur fossils." Yang said the next step will be to expand the search area, and experts from the Dinosaur Museum have arrived at the scene to study the dinosaur fossils.
"The focus of this work is to find more dinosaur fossil sites around qinglongshan based on the revealed dinosaur fossils, and then provide a theoretical basis for the protection, research and development of dinosaur fossils in the Qinglongshan area." Yang said it is not only of great scientific significance to study the environment and species of dinosaurs in the area, but also provides resources for the rural revitalization of villages and towns where Qinglongshan is located for tourism and popularization of science.
At present, experts speculate that there may be similar or even larger dinosaur fossils buried in the area. "It is possible that the number and size of dinosaur fossils in this area are comparable to those in dashanpu, based on the outcrops of dinosaur fossils discovered in the wild." Yang said.
